Our journey began in 2009 with the establishment of our first joinery workshop. After nine years of building and joinery experience, Ken Clark completed his qualifications to become a Registered Building Practitioner. With a modest outfit of joinery machinery, he began manufacturing kitchens in his parents’ vacant sheds.
In 2012, Dawn Clark joined the team after marrying Ken and moving from Bath, England. Together, they expanded the business from kitchen manufacturing to full renovations, extensions, and eventually new homes, reflecting their commitment to design and craftsmanship.
After searching for a unique business premises, Ken and Dawn fell in love with the former Stawell Butter Factory. Recognising its potential, they embarked on an ambitious journey to design and restore the neglected building into the vibrant space we enjoy today.
SALTWOOD build was born with the opening of the newly renovated Stawell Butter Factory Kitchen & Bathroom showroom.

As the world shifted in the early 2020s, Saltwood stepped into a new chapter by joining forces with Craig Bodman, Dawn’s brother, Former Owner of Reynolds Collcutt, a high-end commercial joinery firm in Bristol, England. Lee Oliver, Former Owner of Lee Oliver Plastering, also joined the team, bringing fresh energy as we seek to prove the African proverb: “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”
In 2025, after three years of meticulous design and testing, we proudly unveiled May Warmley and Henry Lewis – Our Signature Cabinetry ranges.
This milestone marks our collaboration with esteemed brand partners, seamlessly weaving together a complete design story.
